The Cherokee tribe of Native Americans used the leaves as drinking cups. Imagine that whenever you wanted a drink of water, you could pick and use a Hooded Pitcher Plant leaf as a cup!

The biological-chemical properties of this plant were used as a form of medicine to treat smallpox when harvested at the right time. It can also be used to treat skin rashes and eruptions. Native American tribes of the Panhandle used it as a remedy for coughs, indigestion and to stop vomiting.
